Nurturing Young Minds:
Seedlings PRESCHOOL in Dominica
Finally, different aspects of education are met, not just academically, but socially, spiritually and emotionally among others.
Nurturing Young Minds
Seedlings Preschool is located on the island of Dominica in the village of Soufriere.
This is the only preschool in the village, which also services two other villages,
Scotts Head and Galion. Seedlings serves children ages 3-5 years old. The two
dedicated teachers, Delia Bellot and Irmin Alfred, have both been in the
profession for 15 years. Their aim is to prepare the children for elementary
school. The motto at the Seedlings Preschool is “Nurturing Young Minds”.
A better future to the children
of Dominica
In the fall of 2022, the Dominica government gifted land to the Jungle Bay Foundation near the current elementary school in Soufriere to build a new preschool. Currently, Seedlings Preschool is housed in a church that is too small;
the preschool serves about 30 children currently. The teachers have the demanding task of disassembling the small classroom every night and reassembling every morning due to the other space demands in the church.
Early education is one of the biggest contributing factors in a child’s success – both socially and educationally. Research shows that children who graduate from preschool have improved academic readiness and higher earnings in the future.
Preschool also boosts pre-literacy skills, builds a foundation for math, nurtures creativity and curiosity, teaches children to take care of themselves and each other, promotes language skills, develops cognitive and motor skills, and so much more! Seedlings promises to bring a better future to the children of Dominica.
Peace through Yoga Foundation’s goal is to provide books for the preschool library. With the island suffering two huge hurricanes in 2015 and 2017, children’s books are non-existent. PTY Foundation, along with Blossom Yoga, are committed to offering at least one Yoga, Adventure and Service trip each year to Dominica.
We ask our travelers to consider bringing an extra suitcase of children’s books, school supplies, and other needed items, so we can help local families while enjoying the beautiful island . Donations can be made through our website, www.peacethroughyoga.org, by pressing the DONATE button in the right hand corner. 100% of all donations are given directly to the project, and a 501c3 tax letter is sent to the donor for their charitable gift.
