Bodhi Tree Yoga Resort
The Nicoya Peninsula, home to Costa Rica’s wellness haven of Nosara , is one of just five Blue Zones. The science of Blue Zones is very real. “Blue Zones” are geographic areas with lower rates of chronic diseases and a longer life expectancy. Diet and exercise are factors associated with Blue Zones. Italy, Greece, Japan, Costa Rica, and the U.S. have a Blue Zone.
In other words, the Blue Zones can teach us about the behaviors we should adopt, in order to live longer and enjoy more fulfilling lives. And since we will be there, we will have a chance to explore what you can do to live your own “blue zone” lifestyle—eating a diet full of whole plant foods, reducing calorie intake, exercising daily, getting enough sleep, being religious or spiritual, having a life purpose, establishing a healthy social network, and more!

Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive at the Liberia International Airport and transfer to Nosara for the approximately 2.5 hour drive. Check-in at the Bodhi Tree Yoga Resort and enjoy all the retreat has to offer. Inspired by Balinese design, the resort features exceptional accommodations with great views, private outdoor showers, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and stone sinks from Bali. It’s a sanctuary unlike any other Costa Rica hotel or resort. Gentle yoga class offered prior to dinner.
Day 2
Wake up to howler monkeys, meditate beside gentle streams, and be serenaded by the symphony of the jungle. Enjoy vinyasa yoga and meditation every morning as well as a great breakfast before exploring the area of Nosara. So many adventures—so little time. Paddle boarding or kayaking in the mangrove and a nature hike will be included during the week. You can also explore on your own zip-lining, birding and wildlife kayaking tours, horseback riding and ATV adventures. Alternatively, Nosara is also famous for its high waves and world famous surfing. Catch a wave or just a great tan – the choice is yours! A restorative/yin yoga will be offered prior to dinner.
Day 3
Morning yoga followed by a Stand Up Paddle Board or Kayak Mangrove Adventure. Paddle the serene waters of the Rio Montana and Rio Nosara, weaving your way through mangrove tunnels to a hidden trail that leads out to Playa Nosara. This is an adventure that will (peacefully) blow your mind. Best of all – it’s accessible to everyone. Late afternoon there will be a two-hour workshop prior to dinner.
Morning yoga
Day 4
Enjoy your morning prior to aerial yoga offered several times to accommodate the group. This afternoon we will have a 1-2 hour visit to the local elementary school. Garza Beach Public School offers first to sixth grade. You can participate in educational activiites and/or a career workshop. Return to the resort to relax prior to yoga and dinner.
Day 5
After breakfast and yoga, experience one of Nosara’s hidden gems; this tucked away waterfall destination is a refreshing treat following a 45 minute moderate hike. The hike involves crossing a creek, traversing a cattle farm, and weaving through a primary canopy of tropical dry forest. Stop along the way to interpret the sights, sounds and smells of everything around you before discovering a series of brilliant swimming holes and small waterfalls, each cascading from one to another. Bask in the cool water and natural beauty of the site until you’re sufficiently refreshed. Depending on the time of year, it’s even possible to hike upriver through the waterfalls. Returning
from the falls you’ll be greeted with an organic picnic lunch and refreshments. All-terrain shoes, swimsuits and hats are suggested.
Yoga followed by dinner.
Day 6
After breakfast, there will be a two hour workshop then enjoy the remainder day free. The retreat’s unique synchronization with solar cycles ensures a balanced experience, aligning dynamic morning activities with tranquilafternoons.
Day 7
Our final full day at Bodhi Tree Yoga Resort to enjoy two yoga classes along with all the other activities. Our hope is that you block out the
afternoon from 1:00-4:00 p.m. for silent meditation and/or journaling.
Day 8
A slow flow yoga class then enjoy the resort until it is time to depart for the airport. We hope you’re leaving renewed and inspired to carry on an even heathier lifestyle than ever before.

YOUR TRIP LEADERS/YOGA INSTRUCTORS
Sally Bassett, Ph.D., 500 E-RYT, Founder/President of Peace through Yoga Foundation.
Sally’s passion toward life, creative nature, and spiritual approach have been keys to her success. She has led groups to over 120 countries as a result of her 40+ year career in the travel industry where she went from flight attendant to CEO.
Sally has been teaching yoga for over two decades, even as a corporate CEO, through her 12-year ownership of two yoga studios before selling the studios. Sally’s yoga journey has also included teaching yoga basics and philosophy as an adjunct professor at Butler University for seven years and co-founding the Yoga and Spirituality program at Christian Theological Center in Indianapolis, IN.
Sally teaches at Blooming Life Yoga in the village of Zionsville, IN and leads adventure and yoga retreats around the world. Sally is author of Spiritual Transformational Yoga. Her favorite quote is by Helen Keller, “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.”
Kristen Barfield, RN-BSN, Owner of Blooming Life Yoga & Pilates, 200 E-YRT, Yoga Alliance Certified Educatinal Professional (YACEP) and BASI Pilates Comprehensive Training 500HR.
Kristen knew even before attending her first Yoga class that there was something special about it. It was something that kept calling to her as she raised her family and worked nights as a Labor and Delivery Nurse. She kept thinking that there had to be something more than the traditional fitness paradigm. After attending my first Hatha class, I knew I was home.
Kristen fell in love with Pilates along the way, too, and added these newofferings at her yoga studio. Just another way for her to share that the connection of the physical body and the mental body is our path to optimal health and wellness. Her goal as a teacher, whether it be Yoga or Pilates, is to help students find their “balance” physically and mentally.
Love-Practice-Growth-Community are the cornerstones of her teaching and what she offers to her students every day!
Hayley, who will be instructing Aerial Yoga, has been in the healing arts industry for over 30 years. First as a multi disciplined yoga teacher and Bodyrolling instructor and then obtained her DTCM in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. In 2009 she brought the unique style of Aerial Yoga to Costa Rica and has been the Aerial Yoga Master teacher in Nosara ever since.
Hayley teaches all levels of Aerial yoga to all walks of life. “Any healthy person – any shape, age or size will be able to participate in Aerial yoga”. It is unique, fun and exhilarating and something most people have not tried yet. Find Hayley at one of either of the two aerial yoga studios on the Bodhi Tree Resort property teaching group or private.
Jill Bassett, YTT 200 and Personal Trainer, 2015 Snap Fitness Personal Trainer of the Year (global fitness franchise with over 2000 gyms)
Jill completed her 200 hour teacher training at Body, Mind, and Core, in Carmel, IN, and teaches at Blooming Life Yoga in Zionsville, Indiana, and Wildflower Yoga in Grand Haven, MI. She has been a personal trainer for over 20 years. Jill enjoys teaching vinyasa, restorative, power flow, and yoga fusion. She believes in the importance of weight training, and incorporates her experience as a personal trainer into her yoga classes, working on overall strength.
